EOC Tech Welcomes new Superintendent, Mr. Hancock

Mr. Tony Hancock has focused his entire career on education and led in multiple roles over the last 37 years. As an Educator who held titles from “Coach,” to “Superintendent” and everything in between, Mr. Hancock brings an array of experience, heart, and knowledge to Eastern Oklahoma County Technology Center and looks forward to continuing the tradition of  excellent leadership for the ‘24-’25 school year.

Mr. Hancock grew up on a farm in Gracemont, Oklahoma and graduated from Gracemont High School before he advanced to college at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK. It was at SWOSU where he received first his Bachelor’s and later, his Master’s Degrees in Education.

“I majored in both math education and physical education,” Mr. Hancock said. “I  taught math and coached baseball and basketball at Eakly for two years and Leedy for 8 years.”

After his 8 years at Leedy, Mr. Hancock made the transition to Blanchard, where he taught math and coached baseball, and for three of his four years there, he served as the Athletic Director. After 14  years of encouraging and shaping students as a coach and teacher within the school system, Mr. Hancock made the decision to serve students in an Administrative role and accepted a new position – Principle of Blanchard Middle School. He was Principal for three years at Blanchard before taking an Assistant Superintendent position at Mid-America Technology Center in Wayne, OK where he served for 13 years.

“After MATC, I went to Caddo Kiowa Technology Center in Ft. Cobb, where I served for 7 years,” he said. “Caddo County is home for me. It was an opportunity to spend time with my parents while serving the District where I was raised, as Superintendent.”

Mr. Hancock’s father was a long time school teacher and principal in Gracemont. The influence of his father’s example, coupled with growing up on a farm, shaped Mr. Hancock’s view of life and his decisions.

“My dad’s tenure in education had a tremendous influence on me,” he said. “I was also influenced by just growing up on a farm. We had about 450 cow and calf pairs and farmed wheat and alfalfa. Hard work, dependability and responsibility are only a few of the things I learned – the farm provided lessons that influenced everything I do.”

As Mr. Hancock watched his father make an impact on the lives of students, as a student himself, he said he finds great joy in the fact that he’s been able to do the same throughout his career.

“The most rewarding part about education is the impact you make on students,” he said. “My time as superintendent and even assistant superintendent has been rewarding on a different level. The opportunity to influence the culture of an institution, to bring a vision for the district, and to create an environment where both students and staff can be successful, is incomparable.”

Mr. Hancock firmly believes he found his passion in education and for that reason, not only does he love coming to work, but the idea of influencing a different group of people is exciting, as he begins his first school year at EOC Tech as Superintendent .

“It may be more challenging to be at a place like EOC and find a way to continue improvement than it has at many other places, as I know EOC has had a stellar reputation and excellent leadership for many years,” he said. “I look forward most to building new relationships with the people in our district; first, with staff and students and then with our Business and Industry Partners.”
